Green-School’s Ambassador Training Day 2016 – 2017

On Wednesday, the 16th of November, Caoimhe Walsh-Kelly and Jadzia Murphy attended their Green-School’s Ambassador Training Day on the Theme of ‘Water’ in Athlone, Co. Westmeath and in Ferbane, Co. Offaly.

The focus of the training day was to ‘Create an awareness of water conservation, supply, protection and pollution’.  Guest speaker Ms Gráinne Carey from Irish Water, spoke about how they intend on updating Ireland’s poor water pipe infrastructure. Mr Aidan Gray from Clean Coasts Ireland spoke about the importance of protecting our beaches, seas and marine life from water pollution and littering.

Finally, Ms Ciara Norton, trained the Ambassadors on various methods of communicating what they will learn throughout the programme with our school and local community alike. Student Ambassador Jennifer Mannion (3D) was unable to attend on the day.

One of the highlights from that day was a visit to the Ferbane Waste Water Treatment Plant in Ferbane, Co. Offaly. Under the supervision of Mr Padraig Joyce, an Engineer from Irish Water, the girls got the opportunity to tour around the Waste Water Treatment Plant and learn how waste water is treated, cleaned and released back into the Brosna River in Ferbane, Co. Offaly.

The girls fully embraced their Ambassador training programme and are now hard at work in fulfilling their Green-School’s Ambassador Obligations. The student Ambassadors will eventually share what they have learned with our school and local community.

The very best of luck to the girls; as they aim to become overall Green-School’s Regional Ambassadors in 2017!!!
