On a cold and crisp, sunny morning, Fifth Year and Leaving Cert LCVP students travelled to Caffrey’s Chocolate Warehouse along with their teachers Ms Wilson and Ms Jordan.
As soon as the girls entered the doors, they were in awe and wonder of the magical chocolate warehouse, whilst they said the smell of chocolate was simply divine.
The girls were greeted and welcomed by staff, where they sampled some of Caffrey’s very own homemade chocolate, and were given a tour around the chocolate showrooms and displays which were wonderful.
Ms Caffrey gave the girls a talk about the background of the factory and how it is run. The girls all took notes for their LCVP portfolios, and discovered how chocolate is made and the history of the cocoa bean. The girls learned about Thomas Caffrey the founder of the factory who was crowned the Irish ‘Willy Wonka’ by the media and newspapers. He was the creator of the ‘Caffrey’s Snowball’ which is a household favorite throughout Ireland.
One of Caffrey’s very own chocolatiers demonstrated how the chocolates are moulded and decorated. The girls got the opportunity to decorate and personalize their own box of chocolates to bring home with them as memento of the day.
They then had a quiz about what they had learned from the day and were given certificates to say they had received the Caffrey’s Chocolate Warehouse experience. After browsing the tempting gift shop the girls left vowing to return.
The day trip to Dublin would not have been complete without a stop at the Liffey Valley Shopping Center, where they had a splendid lunch and did some shopping. They arrived back at the school after what they reported was a brilliant day out, with the visit to the Caffrey’s Chocolate Warehouse as an experience they said they will never forget!
