We are delighted to announce that the school recently received confirmation that they have been awarded the first Green Flag as part of the Green Schools programme.
The school would like to thank all students and staff for their work especially The Green School Committee who have been working to achieve this goal for some time. This year’s Green School team has spent the year working with, and building upon the sterling work that had been done by the previous Green School teams, without whom this award would not have been possible.
The Green School team have been very busy this year with their efforts to reduce the levels of litter and waste in the school. The team have been auditing and monitoring the levels of waste around the school, recycling phones, batteries and ink cartridges, whilst also composting, holding competitions and awareness campaigns.
The schools board of management also supported the Green School work by in support by sanctioning the instillation of a new filter tap in the school. The team’s work was given a major boost by Tesco Ireland, who generously sponsored the Green School team by giving them €300 worth of vouchers for goods to use for the Green School competitions and promotions.
Four members of the Green School team will receive their flag at the awards ceremony 20th of May 2014 at the Radisson Hotel in Galway, whilst a celebration lunch will be held for the team in the school on the 22nd of May. The school will hold a flag raising ceremony to celebrate their success in September.
Congratulations, and thanks again, to all the Green School Team.
