Road Safety Week with the RSA Shuttle and ‘Roll Over’ roadshow

Last week Transition Year students helped improve road safety awareness by organising a “Road Safety Week”  for the whole school. All of the students and teachers were put to the test as the RSA (Road Safety Authority) Shuttle and ‘Roll Over’ roadshow visited the school for two days.

The roll-over demonstrated the importance of always wearing a seatbelt, and gave users, an idea of just how destabilising it is to be involved in a car accident.

The road safety related car and motorbike simulators also proved popular, and allowed everyone to test their driving skills. These simulators also showcased the consequences of a vehicle having to brake sharply.

The RSA (Road Safety Authority) provided the Interactive Shuttle and ‘Roll Over Simulator’, whilst the Transition Year students were responsible for managing the schedules and staffing of the shuttle with the support and training from the shuttle co-ordinator and with the cooperation of their teacher Ms Harris.

Transition Year also had a Road Safety awareness display in the corridor & produced some thought provoking posters, which were highly commended by the RSA coordinator.

The overall message of the week was ‘That road safety is not just a once off, it’s for always...’
