Students go CSI with the Spectroscopy in a Suitcase workshop

Leaving Cert Chemistry students had a great hands-on experience conducting experiments and participating in the Spectroscopy in a Suitcase workshop. The students under the guidance of personnel from the University of Limerick took part in a hands-on workshop using UV and IR spectrometers.

Using the instruments the students identified a drug, which caused had a woman to collapse in a ‘mock investigation’.

The girls reported that they really enjoyed the workshop and found the workshop both challenging and interesting, and that they could see how to apply their Chemistry knowledge in real life situations.
