Transition Year Visit to The Ploughing Championships 2018

On Thursday the 20th of September we, Presentation Currylea, Transition Year students traveled to the National Ploughing Championships in Tullamore, Co. Offaly with our TY coordinator Ms. Quirke.

Up bright and early and donned with suitable water proof attire to combat Storm Ali, who had overnight ripped through the country! For many of us it was our first time attending the Ploughing. The ploughing has something to offer everyone with over 1500 exhibitors present. We were all full of excitement and eager to arrive.

Upon arrival we received our tickets and scampered through the entrance gate. In our groups, we dispersed in different directions and began to explore all the different stalls. We went stall by stall looking at all the various foods, clothes, agricultural equipment, sports equipment and much, much more.

We gathered together for our midday meeting outside the RTE tent. We watched Met Eireann broadcast the weather from the outside windows of the tent. Unfortunately, the wet ‘Irish’ weather restricted us from entering the tent itself! But all the same we didn’t complain we were happy to be there.

The day flew by and with what felt like a blink of an eye we were back on the bus heading home after a wonderful day. Our minds now full of agricultural knowledge and with a tremendous number of freebies! We were happy out after a long day of fun.

Unanimous decision… lets go again next year!

Rural Ireland is alive and well…
