Updates from our Badminton Team

The Connacht Schools C Post Primary Badminton Competition took place on the 7th May 2019 in The Galway Lawn Tennis Club. The team at the venue in good spirit, not knowing what to expect and of course a little nervous!

The U-16, girls competition consisted of The Pres Tuam, five teams from Sacred Heart Westport and three teams from Ballyhaunis Community School.

The girls got off to a great start by beating Westport’s 4th team 5-1. They then played two more rounds against Westports 1st team and the third team from Ballyhaunis. Both games were won 6-0.

The girls had reached the final at this point. They then played another team from Ballyhaunis and recorded a victory of 5-1.

The focus, determination and composure the girls had throughout these game was commendable. The whole day had schools acting in a competitive and sporting environment, with every game ending in a handshake and in good nature.

We could not be prouder of such a fantastic bunch. They are a true credit to their school and to the sport of badminton. Hopefully, this inspires more students to take up a racket!

A big thank you to Laura O’Dea, activity leader and also to the four 2nd year students who came along to referee matches and to support the players on the day.
