Congratulations to our talented 5th year student  Lora Dimitrova who came second in Ireland in the Senior category of the 5th annual Ceist Bake-Off held in Athy on Friday the 8th of March 2019. Lora was one of the six finalists in the Senior category.

In the senior category entrants had three hours to design, bake and decorate a novelty cake that reflected the theme of ‘Family’, fondant icing had to be used and the entry had to be accompanied by fifty words which described the cake and how it reflected the theme of family.

The competition was judged by Odlum’s Catherine Leyden and Imelda Mc Carron, a contestant in the 2018 series of the Great British Bake-Off.

Lora made a lemon flavoured butter cream madeira cake which she constructed  into a tree trunk which reflected the family tree. On the top of the trunk was a nest containing eggs which represented the core principles of the family – support, love and care, which was written on the eggs.

The stone supports the nest to symbolise the strong bond between family members. The cracks in the bark and tree rings show that sometimes even though there are arguments there will always be love symbolised by the carved heart.

Lora won  a hundred euros, an Odlums apron and an Odlums goodie bag. Ms Fitzpatrick also received an Odlums hamper. Laura featured on Galway Bay Fm, The Tuam Herald and The Galway Advertiser.

It was a fantastic achievement for Lora and our school.We are very proud of you Lora. Well done!
