Development Day for First Years students hosted by our Young Social Innovators

Our Young Social Innovators (YSI) from Fifth Year organised a Development Day for all of the First Year students to teach them the importance of development education.
The Development Day ran consisted of  a variety of  workshops, activities and games which compared and contrasted the differences between the developed and developing countries.
In order to make the day more effective, the First Year students had to hand up their phones, to fully understand what life in developing countries is like without the comfort of their most prized possessions.
The YSI advocates also invited guest speaker, Ronan Scully who works as a development officer for Self Help Africa, to talk to them about his experiences working in developing countries. Ronan told them about the Self Help Africa organisation he works for and the work they they do.
The YSI advocates set up this day to follow this years theme of ‘One World’. They incorporated young people, the future of this world, to spread and raise awareness about the lack of food, health care services and peace many countries experience. This creates discussion in the school and local community to bring the world into one.
