High Cross College (HCC) boys played teams from Loughrea and Athenry last week. This was the second round of the Junior boys volleyball competition on March 3rd.
Coláiste an Eachréidh (Athenry) were our first opponents. Our serving proved too strong. This allowed us to win the match in straight sets. St. Brigid’s of Loughrea was our next opponent. This was a point-for-point encounter. Our boys won the first set 26-24. Loughrea won the second set. The third set went in our favour with a 15-13 score line.
As a result, we progressed to the All-Ireland quarter-final. This was against Celbridge Community School, Kildare. On Tuesday, March 11th, we travelled to Roscommon town to play against Celbridge. Service from Nikhilesh, Wojciech, and Mosa stood out. The opposition was unable to return the ball on quite a few occasions. This gave us a great advantage. The first set was close, but we won 26-24. The second set started with our opponents achieving a small lead. Our boys did not falter and got back on track quickly. Again, it could have been anyone’s game. In the end, it was another close encounter. The finishing score line was 25-23.
As a result, our junior boys are through to one pool of the All-Ireland semi-final. This will be played before March 28th. Well done boys! The hard work pays off. The boys are training for 2 hours each week. This is seen in their setting, spiking, and serving.
Well done boys. We are so proud of you!
