Our First Year students enjoyed a great day touring the various aspects of their Geography and History courses. The students were taken on a guided tour of McTigue Quarry and were shown how rock is extracted, processed and transported. At the end of the tour, Garry and Caroline McTigue very generously gave the girls a lovely memento of their visit.
The students then visited Currans sawmills and viewed first-hand the transformation of logs into finished timber products.
Later, at Boston Scientific the girls were brought on a tour of the factory to view the production processes and cleanrooms where the products were manufactured. The students were shown various medical devices and were given the opportunity to view how some of the products operate. Boston Scientific also gave the girls a souvenir of their visit.
After lunch, the girls got immersed in where they dressed in Norman costumes, experienced some of the weapons, punishments and entertainments of the time.
The day was finished with the girls taking part in an archery contest followed by a tour of Athenry Castle.
A great day was had by all
