October marks the opening of the Transition Year School Bank. The Build a Bank Challenge is held in conjunction with AIB to introduce second level students to the world of banking and business.
The launch was held in the school’s gym and was conducted by several students under the guidance of Ty year head, Mrs Mannion. Past pupil and now politician Karey McHugh made an appearance at the launch and gave a speech on the topic of independent women and the importance of saving in the lives of successful women.
The students announced several incentives at the launch, including a lucky dip to be held the following Friday, a training session with GAA player Colm Cooper (for those who lodge a minimum of ten euro) which is set to take place this November and discount cards which would permit a percentage off the sale price of products in various shops around town. The launch was attended by Tuams’ own AIB workers and the school’s students.
