On the 13th of May the school were delighted to welcome Ladies Gaelic Football Association President Pat Quill, who was accompanied by Ita Hannon, coordinator of Gaelic football in Connaught, and Róisín Leonard past pupil, and multiple senior championship player.
Both Pat, Ita and Róisín, were welcomed by the school’s Vice Principal Sean McGrath, where he took the opportunity to thank Ita for ensuring that all school footballers have the opportunity to play in such prestigious competitions, and win such high quality awards.
Mr McGrath also introduced the President Pat Quill to the school assembly and thanked him, on behalf of the school, for ensuring that all girls have the chance to play in Croke Park on all Ireland final day, and he highlighted the association’s continued progressive improvements to the game.
Róisín Leonard was congratulated and welcomed back to the school, she was carrying the winner’s trophy cup that she and her team had won in the TESCO Ladies National Football League Division 2 Final on the 10th of May. Mr McGrath also highlighted the great representation there had been from the school, of both former students and staff who played in that competition, and congratulated them all on their success.
Pat Quill President of LGFA, then addressed the whole school where he congratulated and commended all the students and trainers on their achievements, and highlighted the benefits and skills to be gained by partaking in such sports.
During the visit Pat Quill especially congratulated the junior team who won Connacht final, U-14 A team, who recently won the Connacht final, and the Senior A team who were Connacht finalists in 2013/2014.
