This year’s opening of school year mass was centered on the theme of ‘Our Talents’.Fr Sean Flynn’s mass was based on the inspirational words of Pope Francis: “Do not bury your talents, the gifts that God has given you! Do not be afraid to dream of great things”.

At the beginning of the mass we had a small procession.

A lit candle was carried to the Altar, which was a symbol of the light of Christ. A shell was also part of our procession, this shell represented our student’s uniqueness and we shared a moment to celebrate the mystery that is in each pupil to unfold and blossom during their years here.  Finally a box full of the aspirations and talents of our first year students was presented to the Altar.

We at Currylea encourage all of our students to use the talents that God has given them, and as an institution of learning we will encourage and nurture these talents throughout their years here.

In the Parable of the Talents

The talents that the master gave to his servants was a form of money.

But god has given us talents too. God created each of us with special gifts and he expects us to use those gifts for the purpose for which he gave them to us.

Sometimes you and I may look at the talents that God has given to others and think that God hasn’t given us much talent. We might even be tempted to hide our talent.

But when we use our God-given talents to be all that God intended for us to be, it is really something. God does not give people identical gifts or even equal gifts.  However when we use whatever talents we are given, to the best of our ability we ae on an equal with all people.

The Parable of the Talents teaches that God has given us everything we need, to do what we are called to do.

So, we must generate a return for our talents, by using our talents towards productive ends. Our success is measured by the degrees of effort we have put in to using our talents.  We should fee a satisfaction and a   joy from doing our best with what God has given us.
